Cateline Joly joined Purser Law in June of 2022 as an Articling Student doing a Composite Article, half with Purser Law and half with Sankoff Criminal Law. In July of 2023, she became Purser Laws first Associate Lawyer.

Cateline has been interested in pursuing a career in criminal law since her very first days in law school and has excelled in that area. Amongst other achievements, she was heavily involved in the competitive mooting program at the University of Alberta, and in 2022, was an integral member of the University’s fourth place-winning team at the Gale Cup, Canada’s leading national criminal law moot competition. The team’s factums were ranked as 2nd and 4th overall (out of more than 35), showing her excellent writing skills.

Cateline spent her summer in 2020 working for Peter Sankoff at Bottos Law Group, and then worked for the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service in 2021. During school, Cateline volunteered for Student Legal Services, where she gained experience managing criminal litigation files, preparing Charter applications, and running trials. Cateline ultimately graduated near the top of her class, earning a spot on the Deans list for her exceptional grades.

Prior to attending law school, Cateline completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) at the University of Alberta. In her year of graduation, she received the S.W. Field Prize in History, a scholarship awarded for the best Honours essay written by a convocating student.

During her articles, Cateline wrote the Charter Notice and Final Argument on a matter that ultimately resulted in our client being fully acquitted of first-degree murder (i.e., he was not convicted of any lesser included offences either).

Cateline now accepts a variety of Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, quasi-criminal and regulatory files. For a free consultation, contact Purser Law Toll-Free at 1-866-923-2973 or Book Online Now.
